Nassim
TDC² 2007 - 'Certificate of Excellence in Type Design'
European Design Awards 07 - first prize original typeface design
• Shortlisted by the Design Museum London in the category Graphic Design as Design of the Year 2007

The Nassim typeface family was started during my studies at the MA for Typeface Design at the University of Reading. It is a contemporary original typeface which supports typesetting in the Arabic and the Latin script. A harmonious appearance and equal prominence in bi-script setting were among the main considerations during the design process. However, both scripts were developed as independent and authentic, yet matching designs. In this approach I tried to achieve relative similarity in terms of perceived size, colour and character, without introducing alien features into either script. To facilitate bi-script text composition the Latin design comes in three versions with varying extender lengths. This gives additional flexibility to the typographer of bi-script publications. In addition to its multilingual capabilities Nassim was developed in accord with the requirements of newsprint: economy, readability and sturdiness to withstand unfavourable printing conditions.
