typeface designer | graphic designer | teacher
(and also a student)

I was born in 1983 in Mödling, a petit-bourgeois suburb of Vienna, Austria. From 1985 till 1987 I lived in Constantine, Algeria. Since 1994 Vienna is my home town. I studied at the 'Höhere Graphische Bundes- Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt' and graduated after two years with a distinction and a graphic design 'diploma'. In 2004 I had to serve the compulsory military service. Instead I opted for the alternative: 12 months 'civil service' in a youth center in Vienna. From Febuary 2005 to July 2005 I studied history and Arabic at the University of Vienna. In October 2005 I went to the UK to study at the MA for Typeface Design, University of Reading. My main research field during this year was Arabic typeface design; (see also the essays here). I graduated with a distinction in autumn 2006. 2007 was marked by continued language studies, a six months stay in Damascus Syria, some freelance work, plenty of travelling, and a 3 months stay in Paris. In 2008 I taught as assistant professor of graphic design at the VCUQ. I am currently living in Paris, pursuing research about Arabic script at the ESAD Amiens.
